and looked forward to the annual Old Students Day at Bedford. Joan had played both tennis at Wimbledon, and also scored a hat trick at Wembley Stadium for the women’s England hockey team (an international career which would go on to average scoring two goals every three games!). Remarkably, she is the only English woman ever to have accomplished that double feat. Later, Joan went on to become a regional selector for the AELHA; and also to continue the familly tradition by inspiring her eldest son to a teaching career in PE.
