ABOUT US 

The Bedford Physical Education Old Students’ Association (BPEOSA) has a long and distinguished history.  
 
Founded in 1911, many of its members have been prime innovators in the field of Physical Training and Physical Education. The current committe is made up of staff from the Faculty of Education and Sport at the University of Bedfordshire and other old students involved in the world of physical education. Professor Margaret Whitehead, the founder of the Physical Literacy movement, retired as the president of the association in 2020, and is replaced by Janet Schofield, the previous assistant treasurer, Margaret continues as vice president.  
 
 
Annual General Meeting  
The Association aims to advance the study and practice of Physical Education and connect PE teachers who trained in Bedford, keeping them informed about current trends and advances in initial teacher education.  
 
It provides grants, bursaries and scholarships, is involved in research, arranges seminars and meetings and organises an annual Old Students’ Day. We produce an annual report which is available to members.
